Because
an experienced practitioner needs to build up a picture of the
whole person, identifying patterns of disease on every level,
the first consultation is a lengthy one (one and half hours). An understanding
of what is characteristic of you as a person, along with current physical complaints
and how they affect you, is essential for the Homoeopath to accurately assess
your case. Information about past medical history, patterns of acute illness
and any traumas (physical or emotional) or accidents are also important. A remedy
will then be prescribed to match the individual state as it unfolds.
The initial consultation takes place in a relaxed environment, and the length
of time given allows the patient to freely discuss how their illness has affected
them and build an open and trusting relationship with their practitioner.
All information given is strictly confidential.
Continuity of care is important and the patient will be asked
to come back for a follow up appointment in four weeks. At this appointment
(lasting half an hour), the Homoeopath will assess the response to the first
prescription and continue the treatment strategy accordingly. The overall time
span needed for the treatment is as individual as the prescriptions, and can
vary according ti the severity of the chronic illness, the vitality of the patient
and environmental and causative factors.
Communication
between patient and practitioner between appointments is
important and patients are encouraged to contact their Homeopath with any
problems or queries relating to their treatment as necessary.
